German imports increased in 2017 by 8,3%

The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced 2017 foreign trade results for 2017

German exports amounted to 1,279.1 billion Euros whereas imports reached a value of 1,034.3 billion Euros. This means an increase in exports of 6,2% in comparison to 2016 and a 8,3% increase in imports during the same timeframe.

Germany maintained a foreign trade surplus of 244.7 billion Euros in 2017. In 2016, the balance reached an all-time high of 248.9 billion Euros.

Germany’s major trading partners in 2017 were:

  • by exports: United States (112 billion Euros), France (105 billion Euros), China (86 billion Euros), the Netherlands (86 billion Euros), United Kingdom (184 billion Euros), Italy (66 billion Euros), Austria (63 billion Euros), Poland (60 billion Euros), Switzerland (54 billion Euros) and Belgium (44 billion Euros)
  • by imports: China (100 billion Euros), the Netherlands (91 billion Euros), France (64 billion Euros), United States (61 billion Euros), Italy (56 billion Euros), Poland (51 billion Euros), Czech Rep. (46 billion Euros), Switzerland (46 billion Euros), Austria (41 billion Euros), and Belgium (41 billion Euros)
